Targeted Anti-Epidemic Support, Fosun Foundation Delivers the First Batch of Anti-epidemic Materials to Grassroots Families in Hong Kong

In an effort to support Hong Kong’s fight against the COVID-19 epidemic, Fosun Foundation urgently deployed the first batch anti-epidemic materials including 250,000 sets of COVID-19 rapid antigen test kits and 50,000 pieces of N95 respirators to Hong Kong. The first batch anti-epidemic materials have been firstly distributed to high-risk groups, such as chronically ill patients and children from low-income families and the elderly through non-profit organizations and associations.

In the current wave of epidemic in Hong Kong, multiple children infected with COVID-19 have passed away, the youngest victim was only 11 months, and there are still many children in critical or serious condition. Fosun Foundation donated COVID-19 rapid antigen test kits and N95 respirators to one of the longest serving local non-government organizations dedicated to the welfare of children and youth in Hong Kong, the Boys' and Girls' Clubs Association of Hong Kong. The organization serves more than 120,000 members including children and families this year. During the epidemic, the association took “BGCA All the Way” as its mission, actively promoted online services, and continued to provide anti-epidemic support and services to families with children through courses such as live streaming classes.

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Wing Han Education Foundation have contacted with several primary schools and secondary schools in Hong Kong. Since early February, the foundation received assistance requests successively from primary schools and secondary schools as dozens of families of students have been infected. Upon receiving the donation requests, Fosun Foundation delivered anti-epidemic materials from Shanghai to the schools in Hong Kong in just 96 hours. Dr Zhu Shimin, Assistant Professor at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University thanked and paid tribute to Fosun Foundation for their swift assistance amid COVID-19 epidemic. Many beneficiary schools also sent thank you letters, and hope to encourage students with Fosun's original aspiration of “Self-improvement, Teamwork, Performance, and Contribution to Society”, nurturing students to become responsible citizens, and give back to the society and the country.

The first batch of 8,000 sets of COVID-19 rapid antigen test kits donated by Fosun Foundation to Amity Foundation, Hong Kong arrived at the S.K.H. Ma On Shan Holy Spirit Primary School. Mr. Anthony Tong, Executive Director of Amity Foundation, Hong Kong, thanked Fosun Foundation for its heart-warming donation. Amity Foundation, Hong Kong will soon distribute the materials free-of-charge to 1,600 impoverished students at its partner schools.

As the Hong Kong government announced that the Tsuen Wan Children Community Vaccination Centre will commence operation on 4 March, the vaccination centres dedicated to providing the COMIRNATY® COVID-19 mRNA vaccine to children will be increased to four. Fosun partnered with BioNTech, a German biotechnology company, to jointly develop the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine (COMIRNATY®), endeavoring to provide stable supply of COMIRNATY® vaccine in Hong Kong SAR. Fosun hopes that the safe and effective COVID-19 mRNA vaccine can provide protection for people of all ages to combat the epidemic together.


Let’s work hand in hand to protect the health of the elderly


According to the data from the Centre for Health Protection, Department of Health, the Government of the Hong Kong SAR, as of 28 February, Hong Kong reported a record-high of 34,466 new confirmed cases, and a total of 430 residents and 62 staff members were infected in 49 residential care homes (RCHs) in Hong Kong, involving 43 RCHs for the elderly and 6 RCHs for people with disabilities. Since the fifth wave of the epidemic, there have been more than 580 RCHs with infected case, involving 2,900 residents and 865 staff members.


In the face of the severe epidemic situation, the first batch of anti-epidemic materials deployed by Fosun Foundation was distributed to the elderly residents and staff of the RCHs in urgent need. Ng Lai Kwan, Service Head of the Wan Chai Methodist Centre for the Seniors, said, "we truly admire your efficiency and professionalism. As the number of infections in RCHs for the elderly continues to rise, we urgently need a large amount of rapid antigen test kits and protective materials to protect the health of the elderly and frontline staff. We are very grateful for Fosun Foundation’s prompt assistance.”

Methodist Centre’s elderly service covers Hong Kong Island and provides home and daytime care services for hundreds of elderly families. During the epidemic, Methodist Centre continued to provide on-site services such as nursing care and meal delivery for the elderly in need. All staff members have always adhered to the mission of caring for the elderly. It is reported that the donated materials will be distributed free-of-charge as anti-epidemic gift packs to the elderly living alone or without children, the frail elderly who have just been discharged from the hospital, as well as frontline workers, such as social workers, therapists, cleaners, security guards, food delivery staff.

Fosun Foundation’s anti-epidemic action to help Hong Kong combat the epidemic has received strong support from different sectors of society in Hong Kong, such as the Hong Kong-Shanghai Economic Development Association, WWF for Nature, New Home Association, Aberdeen Kai-fong Welfare Association Social Service Centre, Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Society, etc. Yao Cho Fai, Chairman of the Hong Kong-Shanghai Economic Development Association visited the headquarters of Fosun and presented a certificate of appreciation to Zhang Yifei, Secretary General of Fosun Foundation. Iris Law, Executive Chief Representative of Fosun Hong Kong Office donated anti-epidemic materials to the Hong Kong-Shanghai Economic Development Association on behalf of Fosun Foundation. At present, the association distributed anti-epidemic materials to grassroots residents living in outlying islands, the New Territories and other places in Hong Kong.

Up until now, Fosun Foundation’s anti-epidemic action to help Hong Kong combat the epidemic is still underway, and the second batch of materials will arrive in Hong Kong in the near future.
